Subsistence.
Subsistence is the first and most basic of human needs. Although the current economic system takes costs of satisfaction of some other needs (e.g. leisure) into account it is usually restricted to the area of subsistence. To satisfy the needs of subsistence is to fulfill the basic functions of life which are; respiration, metabolism, adaption to environment, response to stimuli and reproduction.
